Elementary School Program

At Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Regional Catholic School, we stress the value of self-discipline and commitment to our students.  In addition to emphasizing the importance of high academics and basic skills, children are provided opportunities to develop their talents in art, computer, library, music and physical education.

Homework is an integral part of learning and retaining knowledge through practice and application.  Assignments are purposeful and constructive to the learning process.  Daily study guidelines in addition to time given in class are: Primary Grades (K-2nd) for 10-30 minutes, and Intermediate Grades (3rd-5th) for 30-60 minutes. All students will participate in the Accelerated Reader Program (AR) as an important part of each grade's reading curriculum.

Students in fourth grade will be evaluated during the spring semester for placement in the Accelerated Math and Reading Programs to begin in the fifth grade.  Students enrolled in the accelerated program will move through their last four years of math at an accelerated pace, finishing with Algebra II in eighth grade. Students will learn to understand the relationship between mathematics and the real world.
