Meet Mrs. Pat Wayer

Pat Wayer 2019

Hi, my name is Pat Wayer and I have been teaching at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel School since 1991.  I grew up in the Chicago area and received my Bachelor's degree from DePaul University.  My husband and I moved to southern Illinois in 1983.  We have been married since 1978, and have two children.  My daughter, Bethany and her husband, Mike, and their young daughter, Zoe, live nearby.  Our son, Ben, attends the University of Memphis with plans of being commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the United States Air Force upon graduation.

I have been teaching since 1977.  At OLMC, I teach Music to grades Kindergarten through 8, and Social Studies to grades 7 and 8.  I find that the two subjects go together quite nicely as music plays a big part in history.  My favorite thing about teaching is the students--getting to know them and discovering their unique personalities.  I especially like it when they find something we are learning to be interesting or when they can connect what we are discussing with something we talked about previously.  I have the special pleasure of getting to watch our OLMC students grow up since I teach them music every year from Kindergarten up.  I enjoy the variety that teaching all the grades brings to my day.

In addition to teaching, I love to sew and make cards.  I also enjoy reading, especially during the summer when I have more free time.
